Madge was seriously scared. Nate's stares had lately been quite alarming to her. Back then, no one seems to notice her very presence and right now, well...its darn different. She ached to disappear into the crowd once more. But how could she possibly do that when this very moment, Nate was looking daggers at her...again.
Madge could feel it, almost taste his cold hatred, so as fast as she could she traversed her way to the next building. Faster, her feet propelled her. Finally, she slipped into a corridor and leaned against the wall. Breathe, she reminded herself. Just when she exhaled to relax her body, his voice sounded.
"Need more oxygen?" Nate teased.
"Nate...Howard..." she gasped for air.
"Yeah. That's my name."
"I know."-that was all Madge managed to blurt out.
"What were you running from?" Nate was still playing the sarcastic bully.
"Uh..." You-she almost said. "Mr. Statford. you know, Science teacher. I forgot to submit my chromatography homework yesterday."
"oK. Marguerrette Danes, the Chemistry girl. Forgot her homework. Cool." Nate said.
He wasn't buying her improvised story.
"Uh. Yeah. There's a first time for eveyrthing." She attempted at humor again.
"True. Anyways, that was some opinion you got in History."
Madge failed to hide her own surprise. " Okay. Gee, thought you were taking it seriously. I mean, I actually thought you loathed me or something for saying those stuffs. But... Thanks."
Nate slighty shook his head. "No. It's all cool. Honestly, I wasnt used to you saying anything in class. So.." he didn't say anything for a while. Madge waited not even attempting to start any topic.
"Nate, C'mon. We gotta bounce." called Lee.
"K. Just a sec." He turned to Madge. "Hey, Just so you know... I still think it ought to be Gentleman Liberty. Not Lady." then he stalked off.
Madge smirked inspite of herself.
"You realize that actually sounds ridiculous, right?" she called out.
He waved his hand in acknowledgement.
